COMMON QUESTIONS

SO WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THIS PLACE?

In August 2014, a group of people gathered in a bowling alley in Clayton, North Carolina, with a dream to see the gospel change our community. We publicly launched as a church in February 2015, and in May 2024, God brought us to our current location at 510 W. Main Street in Clayton. We believe God planted us in Clayton for a specific purpose (Acts 17:26-27), and we follow Jesus’ example of incarnational living (Philippians 2:6-8 & John 1:14) by proclaiming that we are “forclaytonnc.” We live this with intentionality and purpose through our collective work as a church body and as individuals in the everyday stuff of life.

Over the years, God has changed lives and has used this family of Christ-followers to serve and love our community through the good news of the gospel. Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will work through us every day to continue to accomplish His purpose.

THE MUSIC IS TOO LOUD!

That’s not even a question! Listen, we believe worship is supposed to be loud, according to examples in the Bible (Psalm 50, Revelation 5:10-11). Also, we believe we have something worth shouting about (Jesus is alive!). Finally, we like it that way; we love the energy and the passion that comes from a room full of people singing to Jesus. We like that we don’t have to hear off-key people making a joyful noise, and we like that people can’t hear our tremendous singing as well. Our production team uses a decibel reader to ensure that the volume level doesn’t become dangerous, and we provide complimentary ear plugs at the Welcome Desk, should you wish to dampen some of the volume.

WHAT DENOMINATION ARE YOU?

We are a non-denominational Christian church. We share the same beliefs as several denominations. Everyone is welcome, regardless of your church background.

WHAT VERSION OF THE BIBLE DO YOU TEACH FROM?

Typically, our lead pastor, Jarret, uses the NIV or NLT but we feel that several translations are good, and we encourage you to use the one most comfortable for you.

WHAT ABOUT KIDS?

BRING THEM. GenKids (Birth-5th grade) is a place where your kids can be surrounded by leaders who are committed to a safe, fun environment. Our GenStudents (6th-12th) attend the morning gathering and come back on Sunday evenings from 6-8 pm for community, growth, and fun!

WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN VISITING GENERATION?

You can expect to feel welcomed and accepted! We know that walking into a church can be a little intimidating. We will not embarrass you, make you stand up, bug you for money, or ask you to do anything else you feel uncomfortable with. Come dressed as you are, expect high-energy worship, and prepare to hear the Bible taught in a creative and relevant way.

ARE ALL THE PEOPLE I SEE WORKING ON SUNDAYS PART OF THE STAFF?

Not even close. Believe it or not, the majority of the people you encounter on a Sunday morning are people who believe serving is their privilege. These individuals care for our kids, arrive early to set things up, help park cars, sing on stage, and a whole bunch of other things. It’s a huge undertaking and we have an amazing group of people that bring it all together!

IS GENERATION THE RIGHT CHURCH FOR ME?

We hope so, but we also recognize that we are only one small part of the much larger Body of Christ throughout our community and beyond. If you find that Generation isn’t the right fit, we encourage you to visit some of our other great Clayton area churches and find the one that feels like home.
