WHY BLESS RHYTHMS?
In everything you do, God is present. Everywhere you go, you are a child of God, a servant of Jesus, and a sent one by the Spirit. Everything counts. Christ is in the everyday stuff of life.
But that’s often super tricky! How does grocery shopping, commuting, lunch breaks, bill paying, vacation going, work, sports, and all the other stuff of life change because of Jesus? We’ve found these five B.L.E.S.S. rhythms of life help us reorient those moments of life around Jesus and His mission.
BE IN PRAYER
Literally, be in prayer that God would show you your “Person of Peace”. A “Person of Peace” is someone who is close to you but far from God; you can read about this in Luke 10:1-12. God orchestrates unexpected, divine appointments for us to share Christ. We can’t stay connected to the mission of God without staying connected to the God of the mission. He prepares “Persons of Peace” for us to share the gospel. Ask yourself, if this person was my friend, how would I treat them? What would I do with them? Will you commit to praying for God to show you divine appointments and people of peace? Will you free up time in your busy schedule to have margin for befriending people who are far from Jesus?
LISTEN
Rather than talk, lead with asking questions and finding out about their life because becoming a good listener means asking good questions. People generally like talking about themselves. When we care more about hearing their story than telling our own, it communicates genuine care and enables us to share the good news of God’s story in a very personal way.
EAT
Nothing moves a relationship forward better than breaking bread together. In our fast-paced world, taking time to slow down over a meal is one of the most effective ways for people to open up to spiritual conversations. Mark 2:15 is an example of Jesus having a meal with those in need of salvation. Invite them to your home, or out with other friends, and do something socially with them where you can share a meal together.
SERVE
Do something sacrificial for them. Go out of your way to serve them - buy them a gift, make them a meal. Do something out of the ordinary yet something that would be perceived by them as a blessing or kind act. In this way, you are sharing the love of Jesus with them as Jesus came and gave His one and only life for us. It is in the sacrificial nature of our giving that it is a blessing, not necessarily the gift or the action. But let it be genuine and authentic, not contrived or manipulative. Serve with a nothing beneath me mentality.
SHARE
Having taken the previous steps to build relational trust, prayerfully wait for the opportunity to share your faith. Our intent is not simply to do enough good works with the hope that they somehow figure out that we are Christ followers. We believe that to evangelize someone is to share a verbal explanation of the gospel with them. We don’t love people to convert them, we love them because we have been converted.
